He is a Law graduate from Universidad de la Sabana and holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Management and Audits. He also has postgraduate degrees in Environmental Law and Public Law with an emphasis in Administrative Law.

He is an expert in Occupational Health and Safety Risk Law with over 28 years of teaching experience as undergraduate professor in Environmental Law, Constitutional Law and Administrative Law and as a professor in postgraduate and Master programs in Environmental law, Constitutional law, Planning and Sustainable Development, Environmental Management, and Environmental Engineering and Management Systems.

He was the Founder and director of the first postgraduate course in Environmental Law in Colombia and advisor for the Qualified Registration of environmental postgraduate programs.

He has extensive research experience and has been author and co-author of various articles, essays, texts and books on the subject. As head of the Public Law unit of Legis, he was the compiler and editor of the Legal Regime of the Environment, which was the first compendium of environmental regulation in Colombia, as well as the promoter of several books and researches on the subject.

He has experience in the public sector as advisor to environmental authorities since 1994 and in the private sector as advisor to private companies since 1999. He is the founding partner of the Álvarez Abogados Ambientales Law Firm since 2010.
